George Galaris

Appl. Specialist - Vascularization

George is the vascularization application specialist of ReGEN Biomedical. He has a background in cardiovascular and metabolic biology and is responsible for vascularizing cellular microtissues, a necessary step for their subsequent assembly to functional macro-tissues. Before joining ReGEN Biomedical, he worked as a Junior scientist between the Metabolic Health Research group at TNO and the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research. There he focused on developing a preclinical 3D model of liver fibrosis and setting up a microfluidic system of the gut/liver axis. He performed his PhD studies at the department of Vascular nephrology, Leiden University Medical Centre where he developed in vivo and in vitro models of angiogenesis for studying genetic vascular disease. His strong experience in stem cell biology, disease modelling and preclinical drug testing make him a useful addition to the team. Having worked in multidisciplinary research environments throughout his career, George is very supportive of working on the interface between academia, industry and the clinic and through his role at ReGEN Biomedical he aspires to contribute in bringing cell therapies from bench to bedside a step closer.
